Fredericksburg Festival for the Performing Arts held its 2016 Young Artist Competition Finals Concert on January 30, 2016 at Chancellor Baptist Church. Young vocalists and instrumentalists auditioned prior to the event and then the finalists competed before a panel of judges at the finals. Scholarships were awarded by FFPA to the winners. First place vocalist winner is Trevor White. First place instrumentalist is Melissa Snell. Second place overall winner is Philip Lambert and third place overall is Conner Skelly. Judges for the event were Jim Ford, conductor of the Rappahannock Pops Orchestra as lead judge, along with Marilla Haas, Mandy Carr, and Kevin Crowder. Competing finalists along with the winners were Joy Chang, Lainey Gish, Grace Cumbee, Makenzie Wood, Kelsey Payne, Inadalesia Mecham and Vylan Tran. FFPA invites all of the winners to perform in May at their Annual Chamber Music Festival. First place winners will be invited to solo with the Rappahannock Pops Orchestra at a future concert. The Avery Ballet invites the winners to perform in their April 2016 Ballet and Beyond.
